#APPLE CINEMA HD DISPLAY A1082 SPECS SERIES#
For all Ultrasharp series displays, Dell now discloses the panel type, so you know *exactly* what you are getting, and if you don't get that - you can sue them for not delivering the product you purchased, and get enough money to make a down payment on an NEC PDP. Uh.so far as I know the only time I've ever heard of this happening was on the 2007's. I've read quite a bit of unnecessary confusion lately. redundant and simplistic in my statements. A Dell will cost less, but may / may not have the panel you expect. I know of no cheaper, quality IPS unit you can get without risk. The name EIZO was mentioned above. When I last checked, NEC and LaCie had models that were considered equal or better, but were little if any cheaper than comparible Apple units. Some make an Apple look cheap in comparison. There are monitors as good as, or even much better than an Apple, but they cost the same or more. I don't know anything about the HP's mentioned above. There were models like the 2007WFP where they used multiple panels, so some people got S-IPS and others got S-PVA. 's panel database is not 100% but it's generally useful. I have a ZR22w in my office right now, but I lack the equipment to really test to see if it's better than the 2209WA I have in another part of the office here ). still quite good but if you're nitpicking, not quite as good as S-IPS or H-IPS by a few tiny haire).ĭell Ultrasharp 2209WA = 22" 1680x1050, e-IPS, perhaps the best 22" around (the HP ZR22w hasn't been reviewed yet. NEC EA231wmi = 23" 1920x1080, e-IPS if memory serves, not quite as excellent (e-IPS is the newest, lowest-cost version of IPS. One or both probably use a very similar panel to the Apple 24", only with W-CCFL backlights instead of LED. HP LP2475w, Dell Ultrasharp U2410 = 24" 1920x1200, both excellent IPS panels. Check Anandtech's review or .uk 's review.ĭell Ultrasharp 3008WFP, HP LP3065 = 30" 2560x1600, same panel as the Apple 30", generally just as good. S there a non-apple monitor providing either THE SAME or VERY SIMILAR specs to the Cinema Display for LESS money than you would pay for a cinema display?Ah, you didn't quite ask that.ĭell Ultrasharp U2711 = 27", 2560x1440, very nice. Surely there's something comparable by now that's cheaper.)

perhaps you could just point me to a PC monitor that is billed as being "similar to or better than" a Cinema Display? If no one has any hard facts on the actual tech. but trying to cover whatever variation there may be.) I'm talking about all the cinema displays 23-30 inches prior to the new glossy ones because those apparently/allegedly aren't an option for video editing. Does apple have "better" IPS? Is there something else entirely that sets them apart? Easier calibration or something?
other than they are *ostensibly* better than other panels.) However, I've found other PC monitors with IPS.
(I don't really understand what these are. a non-issue.ĬORRECTION EDIT: I had meant to type "23-30 inch" but still non-glossy.Īnyone know what kinda "secret sauce" (tech) that supposedly makes the cinema display "that damn good?" The only thing I could maybe sorta figure out on my own was that it used H-IPS or S-IPS.

(Even though I am posting from a Mac Pro.) I do audio, so for me the image quality is kinda. No offense to Apple about their monitors. Even if Apple had the tech first I would expect the PC world to have caught up by now. Is there a less expensive option providing the same resolution and accuracy as the Cinema Display? I personally don't know enough about flat panel tech to know if he's essentially "right" to go after a cinema display or not. However, it seems to me that there must be flat panels out there that compete with the specs of the Cinema Display. He does video editing so color/contrast is a concern. I think they are a bit overpriced personally. A friend of mine wants to get a 25-30 incher used somewhere.
